TURKEY - CHEESE STRATA
 

This recipe was developed by two boys (16 years old and 17 years old) who were in the Parlin, NJ High School cooking class. It was entered into the National Cooking Board's contest for high school students. It was not selected as a winner but the school staff and students gave it an "A+".

1 1/2 lb. turkey breast, deli sliced
1 (8 oz.) pkg. no boil lasagna noodles
3 c. sharp Cheddar cheese, grated
3 c. mild Cheddar cheese, grated
3 c. mozzarella cheese, grated
3 tbsp. minced onion
2 1/4 tsp. black pepper
3 tbsp. bacon bits
2 1/4 tsp. basil
2 1/4 tsp. parsley

1. Cook lasagna noodles in the microwave, single layer at a time in a small amount of water until tender.

2. Grate the cheese.

3. Line the bottom of a 9 x 13 inch glass baking dish with the precooked lasagna noodles, placing them lengthwise in the pan.

4. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon minced onion, 3/4 teaspoon black pepper and 1 tablespoon bacon bits on noodles.

5. Sprinkle 1 cup of each cheese on the noodles.

6. Place half of the turkey breast on the cheese.

7. Place precooked lasagna crosswise in the baking dish.

8. Sprinkle 1 cup of each cheese on the noodles.

9. Place half of the turkey breast on the cheese.

10. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon minced onion, 3/4 teaspoon black pepper and 1 tablespoon bacon bits on turkey.

11. Place remaining precooked lasagna noodles lengthwise in the baking dish.

12. Sprinkle with 1 cup of each cheese on the noodles.

13. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon minced onion, 3/4 teaspoon black pepper and 1 tablespoon bacon bits on turkey.

14. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of parsley on top.

15. Heat in the microwave oven until cheese melts. Serve immediately.

Serves 8-10. Serving suggestion: Serve Turkey-Cheese Strata with a green vegetable, tossed salad and dinner roll.
