3/4 lb. thinly sliced beef or pork from deli, cut in 1/2" strips 2/3 c. barbecue sauce 4 thin slices smoked Cheddar, Swiss or Monterey Jack cheese with jalapeno peppers from the deli, cut in half 4 lg. pita bread rounds, split crosswise to form pockets Toppers such as alfalfa sprouts, tomato slices and/or sliced dill pickles (optional) In a medium saucepan combine meat and barbecue sauce. Cook, covered, over medium heat until heated through, stirring occasionally. Place a cheese slice half inside each pita bread half. Spoon about 1/4 cup of the meat mixture into each pita bread half. Add desired toppers. Serves 4. |
