BRAISED POLISH SAUSAGES WITH CABBAGE

For a quick-to-fix meal, all you need to add to this menu is a crisp green salad and crusty bread. Fresh apples and cheese make a perfect dessert. Preparation time: about 25 minutes.

FOR 4 SERVINGS YOU WILL NEED:

2 lbs. Polish sausages, precooked
2 tbsp. butter
1 clove garlic, minced or pressed
1/2 c. white wine or beef broth
1 sm. head cabbage, quartered
1 tsp. mixed Italian-style herbs
Dijon or German-style mustard

1. Pierce sausages so they will not burst while cooking or slice them in 2 to 3 inch lengths.

2. Heat butter in heavy, deep skillet. Add garlic; saute 1 minute. Add sausages and brown over medium to high heat, turning occasionally.

3. Pour in wine or broth. Add cabbage and herbs. Cover. Reduce heat to low. Cook 15 minutes or until cabbage is tender-crisp.

4. Serve with spicy mustard, such as Dijon-style or German-style.

TIPS: You may substitute any precooked sausage for the Polish, such as bratwurst, dinner franks or Swedish potato sausage.

FOR 2 SERVINGS: Half of the ingredients. FOR 8 SERVINGS: Double the ingredients.
