In large bowl, combine first 5 ingredients; mix well. If time permits, chill so mixture will stick together more readily. Quarter mixture and shape into 4 patties.
In large skillet, heat oil; panfry patties on each side about 3 to 6 minutes. Meanwhile, toast buns (if desired). If adding cheese, after turning, top each pattie with cheese slice. Place burgers on bottom half of buns, add desired toppings. Makes 4 servings.
