CHINESE CHEWS

1 1/2 c. chopped dates
1 1/8 c. sugar
1/2 c. eggs
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. cinnamon

Chop dates extra fine or mash well. Combine eggs and sugar; mix with dates until mixture is light. Sift flour and baking powder together and add to other ingredients. Fold in nuts, vanilla and salt.

Drop cookies onto well greased cookie sheet. Cookies should be about the size of a silver dollar. Bake 8-10 minutes in preheated 360 degree oven. Less time may be needed. Cookies should still be soft.

Meanwhile combine 1 cup sugar and cinnamon. Remove cookies from oven and sprinkle generously with mixture. Pour hot cookies between your hands to firm rolls 2 1/2-3 inches long.
