MAPLE PECAN BARS
 

Preparation time: 20 minutes. Baking time: 35 minutes. Oven temperature: 350 degrees. Yields: 2 dozen. Calories: 128 each.

1 1/2 c. plus 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1/2 c. butter
1 c. maple-flavored syrup
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 to 1 c. chopped pecans

1. In bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour with 1/3 cup brown sugar. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.

2. Press mixture into greased 9 x 13 inch pan.

3. Bake at 350 degres for 15 minutes.

4. Meanwhile, combine remaining brown sugar with syrup in saucepan. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.

5. In bowl, beat eggs with remaining flour, vanill and salt.

6. Gradually pour hot syrup into egg mixture, stirring constantly. Pour over baked crust. Sprinkle with pecans.

7. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

8. Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into 24 bars.

TIPS: For a wonderful dessert, cut into slightly larger squares. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
