1 c. white sugar 1 c. brown sugar 1 c. shortening 3 eggs 4 c. flour 1 tsp. soda 1 tsp. vanilla Dash salt Cream white sugar, brown sugar and shortening. Add eggs. Mix with eggs and sugar mixture, flour, soda, vanilla and salt. Divide in half and roll 1/2 inch thick; spread on filling. Roll and chill. Slice for cookies and bake in 350 degree oven until light brown. May be frozen before sliced and then sliced and baked as needed. FILLING: 1 c. sugar 1 lb. figs 1/2 to 1 c. water 1 c. finely chopped nuts Chop or grind dates and combine with water, sugar and pecans. Cook until thick. Cool before spreading on cookie dough. Note: Chopped dates may be substituted for figs. |
