GUM DROP CAKE
 

2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. lard
2 c. raisins
2 c. hot water
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt

Put in pan and boil 5 minutes. Cool and add: 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. soda 1 c. walnuts 2 eggs, well beaten 1/2 to 1 lb. gum drops, (small preferred, & "No Blacks")

Bake 1 hour and 20 minutes in a low oven, 275 degrees. Put pan of water in bottom of oven, makes higher and glossier cakes. Makes 2 loaf cakes.
