1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 c. hot water or coffee
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
3/4 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. cocoa
1 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. baking powder

Mix Crisco, eggs, sugar, and vanilla together and beat well. Mix hot water or coffee with cocoa, then add to the first mixture. Add the flour, salt, soda, and baking powder; mix. Pour into 2 (8 inch) pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes. Serve with whipped cream.
