MIAMI BEACH BIRTHDAY CAKE
 

1 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. graham cracker crumbs
1/3 c. melted butter
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
2 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 c. buttermilk
1 c. heavy cream
2 tbsp. sugar

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Melt 1/3 cup chocolate chips. Grease and flour 2 (9 inch) cake pans. Combine melted butter, graham cracker crumbs, 2/3 cup chocolate chips and walnuts. Set aside. Combine flour with soda and salt in small bowl.

Cream butter, gradually add 1 1/2 cups sugar, cream well. Add eggs, one at a time, beat well. Add melted chocolate chips. At low speed, add dry ingredients and buttermilk alternately. Turn into pans. Sprinkle with crumb mixture. Bake 30 to 40 minutes. Beat cream with 2 tablespoons sugar. Frost middle and sides of cake. Refrigerate.
