1 c. sugar 3 egg yolks 1/2 c. boiling water Pinch of salt 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. baking powder 1 1/2 c. flour 3 beaten egg whites Cream sugar and egg yolks. Add rest of ingredients except egg whites. Mix well. Fold in beaten egg whites, beaten stiff. Put in well-greased tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees until done. BOILED FROSTING: 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. water Scant pinch of cream of tartar 2 egg whites, stiffly beaten 1/2 tsp. vanilla Cook sugar with water and cream of tartar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Let boil until tried with a fork, the syrup will form a fine thread like a stream which will fly. Remove immediately from fire and pour in a thin stream over the beaten egg whites. Beat until cool. Add vanilla. Put on sponge cake. |
