Always add sugar to water for boiling corn as salt takes out the sweetness. For water, enough to boil a dozen ears, add 4 tablespoons sugar and 1 tablespoon salt. Let corn cook at a hard boil about 15 minutes.

I tried this. Corn turned out very mushy. If you like nice crisp and delicious corn on the cob, take the boil time down to about 5 minutes.
