6 to 8 med. cucumbers, leave peelings on 2 tbsp. salt 2 lg. onions 1/2 lg. bell pepper Slice above ingredients very thin and combine with salt. Let stand for 3 hours. Drain. 1 tsp. alum 1/2 tbsp. mustard seed 1 tsp. turmeric 1 1/4 c. cider vinegar 1 1/4 c. sugar 1/8 tsp. cloves (pieces instead of crushed) Combine above ingredients in large pot. Bring to a boil, then add cucumbers. Heat thoroughly but do not boil. Place in jars while hot, seal, then turn jar upside down immediately until cooled. |
