1 1/2 lbs. stewing beef 1 onion, chopped 1/4 c. salad oil 1 1/2 c. water 1/3 c. soy sauce 1 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. fresh ginger root, grated 3/4 c. orange juice 1 1/2 c. celery, cut diagonally 1 (5 oz.) tin water chestnuts 1 pkg. American mix Manhattan frozen Green Giant vegetables 2 tbsp. cornstarch 3-4 mandarin oranges or pineapple chunks Brown meat and onion in hot oil in heavy saucepan. Add water, soy sauce, ginger, sugar and orange juice. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours. Add celery, water chestnuts, frozen vegetables, let simmer five minutes. Mix cornstarch with 1/4 cup cold water and add to mixture to thicken. Add mandarin oranges or pineapple and heat. Serve with rice. |
