12 slices white or whole wheat bread 8 slices baked ham 8 slices cooked chicken breast (or turkey) 8 slices Swiss cheese 2-3 eggs, slightly beaten 2-3 tbsp. water Salt to taste Use 3 slices bread for each sandwich. Cover first slice with 1 slice each cheese, ham, chicken. Top with second slice of bread, repeat meat and cheese layer, ending with cheese. Cover with third slice of bread. Press slightly. Hold together with toothpicks. Trim crust. Cut in half diagonally. Combine eggs, water and salt. Mix in bowl. Dip sandwich halves in egg mixture. Fry in butter until golden brown on both sides and cheese has melted. Remove toothpicks. Serve hot. Serve mustard or cranberry sauce as condiments. |
