1 lb. ground beef
1/2 c. chopped onion
1/4 c. green pepper
1/4 c. celery, finely chopped
3-4 cloves garlic, minced
1 (8oz.) can tomato sauce
1/4 c. catsup
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/8 tsp. pepper
Brown the ground beef. Combine the remaining ingredients in a saucepan with the ground beef, cover and allow to simmer for 20 minutes.
Serve on hamburger buns accompanied by honey barbecue sauce, if desired.
Cook's Variations: Add 1 tablespoon taco seasoning and serve in taco shells topped with shredded lettuce, onions, salsa, shredded Cheddar cheese and sour cream.
Cook's Variation 2: Add cooked elbow macaroni. Turn into an ovenproof casserole dish. Top with cheddar cheese and bake until cheese is bubbly.
