HOPPING JOHNS
 

1 bag black eyed peas
1/2 c. rice
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 whole onion
1/2 c. catsup
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 smoked turkey wing

Soak peas in water overnight. Wash peas twice in cool water before cooking. Put peas in turkey in large pot. Have enough water to cover peas and meat. Cook for 1 hour, then add rice, salt, pepper, garlic powder. Cut up onion in small pieces, a pinch of baking soda and 1/2 cup catsup. Cook for 1 more hour. This dish has all the protein your body needs for 1 week. Garlic is good for your blood.
