1 pkg. yeast
1 1/2 cup warm water
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
4 1/2 cups flour
pretzel salt
1 egg
In a large bowl. dissolve the yeast with the warm water. Add one teaspoon salt and one tablespoon sugar. Add 4 1/2 cups flour, mixing well until you have a stiff dough.
Place on a floured surface and knead the dough for 5 minutes. With a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/8 inch thick.
Using your favorite Christmas cookie cutters cut the dough, making sure they are not too thick. Place on a lightly greased pan.
Beat one egg. Using a basting brush, spread the egg on each pretzel. Pour all pretzel salt (coarse salt) onto each pretzel.
Put into a preheated 425°F oven for 8 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool.
Makes up to 18 depending on size of cutters.
