MOLASSES CRINKLES OR FRUIT BARS
 

Cream well:

3/4 c. shortening or butter
1 egg
4 tbsp. molasses

Add:

1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger

Chill at least 1 hour or more.

For crinkles: Shape dough into balls about the size of a walnut. Dip top of balls into sugar

For fruit bars: Form dough into rows about 1 inch wide and 1/2 inch thick. Sprinkle water on top of cookie, then sugar. Nuts and raisins or dates may be added to dough. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
