2 tbsp. bacon fat or fat from steak 2/3 c. chopped onion 2-3 cloves of garlic, pressed 2 lb. round steak 1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms 1 c. cultured sour cream 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce 1 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. pepper 1 tbsp. or more Worcestershire sauce Cut steak into 1/8 inch strips. Melt fat and brown meat. When nicely browned add onion and garlic. Then add all of the remaining ingredients including the liquid from the mushrooms. Simmer a few minutes then transfer to a covered baking dish. Bake slowly one hour or so. Serve over wild rice. Serves 12. |
