2 c. dry pinto beans 5 to 6 c. water 1 lb. hamburger 1 lg. onion, chopped 1 tbsp. powdered beef bouillon 2 pts. green chili, chopped 1 tsp. garlic powder 1 tsp. oregano Salt to taste Cook beans and water in crock pot at high setting, approximately 4 hours. In large skillet, brown hamburger. Add to beans. In same skillet, saute onions and green chili. Add to beans. Let cook additional 1 1/2 hours. Add bouillon, garlic powder, salt, and oregano. Cook 30 minutes. Mixture should be thick, not soupy. Add or subtract water as needed. 3 cups stewed tomatoes can be added to enhance color, if desired. |
