FILLING: 40 dates 1 c. water Not quite a c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla Cook filling until thick. Remove from heat and cool. CRUMB MIXTURE: 1 1/2 c. flour 1 1/2 c. rolled oats 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. chopped nuts 1/2 tsp. soda 1 c. melted butter 1 c. brown sugar Mix together; take half of crumb mixture and put in bottom of baking pan. Add filling in center. Put remaining crumbs on top. Bake in moderate oven. Don't get brown. Bake 15-25 minutes. When cool, cut in small squares. |
