1 c. butter (no substitute)
1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla and mix well. Add dry ingredients and stir. Chill dough in refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
Roll out dough on lightly floured board 1/4 inch thick for soft cookies, 1/8 inch thick for crisp cookies and cut out cookies. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes on non-stick baking paper. Watch closely, as they only get tinge of brown on edges. Frost with confectioners sugar icing. Decorate as desired. Makes 5 dozen medium cookies.
