BEST COCOA BROWNIES
 

CHOCOLATE LAYER:

1/2 c. butter
1/3 c. cocoa
2 eggs
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. unsifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts

CREAM CHEESE LAYER:

1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
2 tbsp. butter
1/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Melt butter, remove from heat and stir in cocoa; set aside. Beat eggs until foamy, gradually add sugar and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in chocolate mixture and nuts. Spread half of the batter in greased 9 inch square pan.

Prepare cream cheese layer. Spread cheese mixture over chocolate. Drop spoonfuls of remaining batter onto cheese layer; gently swirl top of batter with spatula. Bake 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes or until brownie begins to pull away from pan. Cool in pan. Frost with:

BROWNIE FROSTING:

3 tbsp. softened butter
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla

Put in small mixer bowl. Add enough confectioners' sugar and milk. Beat to spreading consistency.
