WELSH COOKIES
 

4 c. flour
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. currants
2 eggs
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix and sift flour, nutmeg, soda, salt and baking powder. Cream with shortening. Add sugar and currants. Add eggs and milk. Bake on a griddle or heavy pan (not too hot, they burn easily). Fry pan about 320 degrees.

Shortening "original family" recipe calls for lard. May use Crisco or Crisco and butter. Not all butter.
