DAZZLING DESSERT
 

Pastry for 2 crust 9 inch pie

1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1 tbsp. milk
2/3 c. heavy cream
1/4 c. water
1/4 c. lemon juice
2 med. bananas (sliced)
3/4 c. sugar
1 tbsp. grated orange rind
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 c. orange juice
1 pt. strawberries
1 (11 oz.) can mandarin oranges

Roll out pastry to 15 inch circle. Place in 14 inch pizza pan or on baking sheet. Form 1.2 inch rim, flute edges. Prick crust well with fork. Bake 425 degrees oven for 12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on rack in pan.

Combine cream cheese, 1/4 cup of the sugar, milk and orange rind. Beat until smooth. Add heavy cream, heat until thick. Spread over crust and chill.

Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cornstarch in a sauce pan. Stir in water, orange juice and lemon juice. Cook, stirring until mixture boils. Cook 1 minute. Reserve 3 strawberries with stem. Hull and slice remaining berries and arrange overlapping around the rim of the crust. Then add a ring of bananas overlapping them. A ring of mandarin oranges and a ring of bananas. Place the 3 reserved whole strawberries in the center. Spoon the sauce over fruit and chill 2 hours. If you can remove the pastry easily before filling, it is pretty to place a paper doiley between crust and pizza pan. Serves 12 to 16.
