1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. applesauce
4 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
raisins (optional)
chopped nuts (optional)

Mix together and drop by teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet.

Bake at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes.

Makes about 5 dozen.
