WALDORF ASTORIA CAKE
 

1 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 oz. red food coloring (1/4 c.)
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour
1 tbsp. cocoa
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. soda

Cream sugar and Crisco. Add vanilla, beat well. Add eggs, one at a time. Add coloring; beat well. Sift flour, salt and cocoa 3 times. Add to mixture with buttermilk; beat well. Mix soda in vinegar. Fold into mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

ICING:

1 c. milk
1/4 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 c. Crisco
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix flour and milk in pan and cook until thick. Set to cool in refrigerator. Cream Crisco and sugar, add to cold mixture. Add vanilla. Beat to spread good.
