3 tbsp. fat or butter 1 c. molasses with 1 tsp. soda stirred in 1 c. whole wheat flour 2 tsp. ginger 3/4 c. boiling water 3/4 c. dried bread crumbs 1/2 c. raisins 3/4 tsp. salt 1/4 c. wheat germ (optional) Put shortening in bowl, add hot water to melt, then add molasses with soda then dried bread crumbs and raisins. Add flour, salt, ginger and optional wheat germ. Mix together well. Bake batter in lightly greased loaf pan or layer cake pan. Bake at 325 degrees F. for 30 minutes for layer pan and 40 minutes for loaf pan or until knife comes out clean. |
